Take Care of These 4 Essential Tasks When Moving
Here are four important tasks you shouldn’t forget about when moving to a new home.
No matter how carefully buyers do their homework, certain tasks on the home buying to-do list fall through the cracks. Too often, they’re so excited by the purchase of their new home that the little items get forgotten. To keep you from having to deal with a potentially stressful situation, here is a list of essential tasks you shouldn’t forget:
1. Check your new city/area to see if your bank has a branch nearby. If not, you may need to switch banks. This is especially true if your bank is regional.
2. Transfer any medical records/needs. If you can, have your current doctor call in prescriptions to the local pharmacy in your new town. This will give you time to pick out the right doctor instead of the one who happens to be available. Also, keep your old doctor’s number for when you need paperwork forwarded to your new doctor. If you’re keeping your health insurance plan, look for doctors in your new area who’ll accept it. If you need to switch providers or update your plan, try and do so before moving.

3. Transfer any organizational memberships. This includes gyms, associations, and/or clubs. Be aware that canceling a membership before it is complete can result in early termination fees.
4. Raid the kitchen. About a month before moving, start using up any frozen goods so that you avoid waste. You can also use up, give away, or donate any unopened food in your pantry. These items can be bulky and heavy to transport, and moving is never easy.
